Wheelchair questions answered.
Still unsure? Call us and we will help you find the right wheelchair for the user’s specific needs.
Call Us NowMeasure the user’s hip width when seated and add 2 inches for the seat width. Measure from the back of the knee to the back of the seat for depth. The seat height should allow the feet to rest flat on the footrests with the knees at 90 degrees. Call us with these measurements and we will identify the right models.
Transport chairs have small rear wheels and are designed to be pushed by a caregiver. They are lighter and more compact but cannot be self-propelled. Standard wheelchairs have large rear wheels that allow the user to self-propel. If the user will ever move the chair independently, choose a standard wheelchair.
Lightweight wheelchairs typically weigh 15 to 25 lbs and are made from aluminum. Ultralight chairs weigh under 15 lbs and use aircraft-grade aluminum or titanium rigid frames. Ultralight chairs are designed for active daily users who self-propel extensively and need maximum performance and minimum effort.
Reclining and tilt-in-space wheelchairs are for users who cannot reposition themselves independently, who need pressure relief during long periods of seated time, or who have medical positioning requirements. They are also appropriate for users with limited trunk control or who need elevated leg rests.
