Medicare

Medicare and medical equipment rentals.

Many customers ask whether Medicare can be used for medical equipment rentals. Hieline Medical does not bill Medicare. If you want to pursue Medicare coverage, you may need to work with a Medicare-enrolled supplier.

The reality

What you should know.

Hieline does not bill Medicare

We are a self-pay provider for rentals. We do not submit claims to Medicare, and we do not process Medicare billing for rental equipment.

Medicare requires an approved supplier

To use Medicare for rented equipment, you would need to work with a supplier that is enrolled with Medicare and able to bill Medicare directly. Coverage decisions are handled by Medicare and the supplier.

A prescription is often required

Medicare-covered equipment usually requires a prescription and supporting documentation from your physician. Additional paperwork may be needed depending on the item and the reason it is needed.

Approval takes time

Using Medicare is not immediate. Processing may involve documentation review, supplier approval, and coverage verification. If you need equipment right away, self-pay rental is usually faster.

Self-pay is often faster

Many customers choose self-pay when they need equipment quickly for recovery at home, hospital discharge planning, or short-term care. Our team can confirm availability and start your rental on the same call.

Ask Medicare directly

To pursue Medicare coverage, contact Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or speak with a Medicare-participating durable medical equipment supplier. TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048.
